Roosevelt Art Students win Top Awards at Law Day

The Polk County Bar Association gives students a chance to get creative with the law as part of the annual Law Day celebration. Chief among the activities is the visual arts, music, essay and poetry competition for students in grades 6 through 12 in Polk County. Roosevelt students took 1st and 3rd place in the visual arts category.

Summer Registration Online, opens in July

Summer Registration! The DMPS is developing a new registration process. It is still in the formation stages and will roll out sometime in July. We have been informed that there will be no registration for the 2015-16 school year until later in July. As DMPS works the entire process to completion, we will be molding Roosevelt registration to fit the new model. When the new procedure is complete, we will share with our families!

Championship Season: Riders Celebrate 1965

Last Friday the clock was turned back fifty years at Roosevelt High School. A pep assembly in the school auditorium and a halftime ceremony in the gym were staged to honor the boys’ basketball team that won a state championship for the Roughriders in 1965. Riders create artwork for Philanthropy Awards

The Central Iowa Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) announced the 2014 Philanthropy Day award winners last summer. The annual awards recognize individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to the quality of life in central Iowa. A select number of Roosevelt Students created artwork for each award recipient.

Band Wears Pink Plumes for Breast Cancer

To show support for Breast Cancer Awareness, and raise money for the cause, DMPS high school marching bands are going PINK. During the month of October, each band will be wearing pink plumes in their marching band uniform hats. Roosevelt kicks off the effort tonight during their game against Johnston at Drake Stadium. What’s That in the Hallway?

Wildlife filled Noreen Nsereko’s environmental science class at Roosevelt High School. Along with the red tailed boa constrictor, zoo officials brought in a marine toad, a blue and gold macaw and an American alligator to show to the class. Down the hall in Deb Henry’s biology class, students have been raising and releasing monarch butterflies.
