The 50th Anniversary of the Tinker Armband Protest

The Roosevelt High School Foundation and Alumni Association is pleased to present the first annual Teddy Talks: The 50th Anniversary of the Tinker Armband Protest. Join us on Tuesday, December 15th at 7:00pm in the Roosevelt High School Auditorium for an evening to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the events resulting in the landmark Supreme Court case, Tinker vs. Des Moines Independent School District, which put a spotlight on Des Moines schools and established free speech protections for students.

R’velt Grad: Top 10 Up and Coming Scientists

Science News magazine has named Feng Zhang, a 2000 graduate of Roosevelt High School who also attended Central Academy, as one of the world’s top 10 up and coming scientists. Zhang, who attended Harvard and Stanford and currently holds appointments at MIT and Harvard, was selected by a panel of 30 Nobel Prize winners for his groundbreaking research on brain ailments. 14 Students Earn National Merit Honors

Ten Riders are among the 14 high school seniors chosen as Semifinalists in the 61st annual National Merit Scholarship competition, placing them among the top young scholars in the state and nation. The DMPS is working with RevTrak, a national credit card payment processo0r, will provide you a secure site for making online payments. These fees include textbook fees, planners, course fees, and other school specific fees. The webs store also allows you to connect to existing departments that currently offer online payments including payments for schools meals and community education courses.

Roosevelt Art Students win Top Awards at Law Day

The Polk County Bar Association gives students a chance to get creative with the law as part of the annual Law Day celebration. Chief among the activities is the visual arts, music, essay and poetry competition for students in grades 6 through 12 in Polk County. Roosevelt students took 1st and 3rd place in the visual arts category.
