Another day, another Des Moines Public Schools student signs a National Letter of Intent! Congratulations to Roosevelt High School senior and 2014 state cross country champion Megan Schott on signing to run for Iowa State University.
The Central Iowa Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) announced the 2014 Philanthropy Day award winners last summer. The annual awards recognize individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to the quality of life in central Iowa. A select number of Roosevelt Students created artwork for each award recipient.

The Lady Tankers won the Central Iowa Metro League (CIML)Metro Championship Meet for the 14th year in a row. The sixty-nine member Roosevelt team won both the varsity and junior varsity portions of the meet. The team won all six relays. Sophomore Natalie Galluzzo took home four gold medals. She was on two relays that finished first and she won her two individual races: 200 Individual Medley and 100 Yard Breast.
At the beginning of last night’s School Board meeting, Team Cloud 9 – the new robotics team here at Roosevelt High School – talked about their work and presented their latest creation. Nosa Ali is from Sudan. Brenda Vasquez’s family emigrated from El Salvador. While their origins are different, their paths have brought them to Roosevelt High School. Roosevelt Senior Lucia Ruppert was granted a top scholarships in the state wide Herbert Hoover Uncommon Student awards. Ruppert wrote – “The Adventures of Lucy & Lulu” a children’s book that she wrote, illustrated and self-published.
